Maturity Assessment of IT Function

How well does the ICT department function? Does it have defined processes with roles and responsibilities? By carrying out a maturity assessment, it can help you answer important questions about the IT function within your business or organization.

Maturity assessment is used to determine how closely the current processes and procedures in the ICT department correspond with best practice. Best practice is defined through the framework ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library).

The assessment is carried out through a series of workshops in which employees participate. This will give them a better insight into their own processes, supported by interactive training in ITIL. Each workshop starts with a presentation of what is best practice for the process to be reviewed. Then the group is given a series of questions about the corresponding process currently used in the department. Each question is discussed in the group and given an overall rating from 1 to 5, with a top mark of 5 where current practice corresponds with best practice.

The results of the assessment are presented as a radar chart that shows the maturity of the various process areas:

This provides a basis to prepare an action list for the various areas in order to improve the processes used in the ICT department.
